Sri Ramapuram

Backdrop

Sri Ramapuram village is located 20 kms away from Nellore District, 10 Kms away from Dagadarthi Mandal and 10 kms away from Rajupalem mandal. The village belongs to the native of the Managing Director of Pravesha Industries. Praevesh being highly concerned about the social responsibility and environment concerns, has adopted the Sri Ramapuram village to develop it as a model village. For transforming Sri Ramapuram into a model village in all aspects, Pravesha has approached APMAS and assigned a task to assess the current status of the village and identify the development needs of various sections of the community – men, women, youth and social categories. APMAS team has visited the village on 11 January 2016 and the findings of the assessment were shared with the Managing Director of Pravesha Industries Ltd on 24 January 2017. The scope of development works to be undertaken were discussed and to make detailed assessment of the emerged scope of work, further visit was made to the Sri Ramapuram village on 2 February 2017. All the sections in the village, the leaders, elders, CBOs and Panchayat members were met with and discussed on the concept of model village and the scope of the development works to be undertaken in the village. The project is initiated under the Government of Andhra Pradesh scheme of Smart Village, Smart Ward towards Smart Andhra Pradesh.

The project of Model village- Sri Ramapuram is about bringing about behavioural change in a community for building a vibrant and well-informed society, through a community-led process towards inclusive and holistic development. Before starting the project, a need based study was conducted by APMAS in the village to understand the current and long term needs of the village. Based on the study findings, six major interventions are planned for a sustainable holistic development of the village. This village is the birthplace of Shri Madan Mohan Reddy and Shri Amarnath Reddy, one of the founder members of Pravesha Industries.

• 90 candidates will have earnings through self-employment or placement
• SMART Committees are effectively taking up village development activities
• RO plant is serving safe drinking water for the village
• 100% Institutional deliveries (hospitals/PHCs)
• At least 30 women accessed post-natal support in the village
• Village will become 100% Open Defecation Free
• Improved health and nutrition of all pregnant women and children through anganwadi centres

Constraints and Challenges

In this village, the community has shown tremendous interest in participating in various development activities planned for the village. The challenge here is to maintain that interest and make them aware about the process and procedures to take the development activities progress on their own. To make our initiatives sustainable we need to maintain a very strong VDC working for the community.
